Yeoncheon Station is a ground-level metro station on Line 1 of the Seoul Subway in Yeoncheon, South Korea.

History

[edit]

The station opened on July 25, 1912.[1]

The water tower on the station grounds is a facility used by steam locomotives in the past, and was designated as a registered cultural property because of its good preservation condition and its historical value. In addition, the bullet marks from the Korean War remain clear in the 給 Water 井, which is used as historical data.

Yeoncheon Station is located north of the 38th parallel in the latitude, so it belonged to North Korea before the outbreak of the Korean War through Soviet military rule. On the west side of the platform, there is a cargo platform installed in 1948 to transport military supplies related to the Korean War to the south, and military cargo transportation is still taking place today.

On December 16, 2023, Seoul Subway Line 1 was extended to here.[2]
